Warranty
Designer Tanks are manufactured by Nichol Tanks Pty Ltd from Grade 304 Stainless Steel, the same grade as kitchen sinks. The durability of this grade of stainless steel is beyond any doubt.
Designer Tanks will last well beyond our Ten (10) year warranty against corrosion, when situated as per our instructions in this warranty.
Designer Tanks manufactured by Nichol Tanks Pty Ltd are specifically designed for the storage of potable water only. While stainless steel tanks are suitable for the storage of many liquids, if the tank is to be used for any other purpose than potable water, please consult the manufacturer prior to useage to avoid voiding this warranty.
Tanks with a diameter of over 2.5 metres are fitted with a permanent centre roof support. Removal of this support, for any reason, will affect the stability of the tank and void this warranty.
Our warranty excludes any damage caused by:
- Using the tank as a transporter
- Impact (Tree branches, rocks, bullets, vehicles, etc.).
- Any force acting on the tank.
- Any damage caused by storing liquids other than potable water.
- Any damage caused by undermining of the base of the tank.
- A marine environment.
- Whether deliberate or accidental, acts or actions which impact upon the product
- Slimline series 680 and 880 mm not being put on a property constructed concrete base or pavers
- crusher dust or sand bases piercing the tank
Set out below are some guidelines for you to follow to achieve the very best performance out of your new tank. This will ensure that you gain optimum results and lifetime expectancy for your tank, exceeding any other water tank.
- As soon as the tank arrives ensure that the tank does not blow away. It is essential to secure the tank by either putting enough water in it or tying it down with ropes. When water flows from the tank outlet, then it can be considered to be safe.
- Your base must be sound. We always recommend a concrete base, however your tank can sit on a base of crusher dust with the exception of the Slimline (680 & 880 mm) which must sit on concrete or pavers. If you use a crusher dust or sand base you must place a weed mat or similar between the base and the tank to prevent piercing of the tank. You must also ensure that the base cannot be undermined by water or vermin. If you use a concrete base, ensure the concrete reinforcing is well covered by concrete so that there is no contact between the reinforcing and the tank.
- If you erect your tank on a stand, keep in mind that a 5000 litre tank weighs 5000 kgs (5 tons) which equals about two large 4wd vehicles. Your stand has to be of substantial quality. If in doubt, ask for advice.
- If your stainless steel tank replaces a rusted out zincalume or acqua plant tank, ensure that the base is cleaned thoroughly so that no rust flakes are left on the base.
- Do not use the top of your tank for storage purposes. Nails, washers, screws or other steel items can leave ugly rust marks on your tank. If this happens, ask us for advice on how to remove them.
- On larger tanks it is common practice to use a ladder to access the inlet strainer on the tank for cleaning purposes. We strongly recommend you remove the ladder after use to prevent any unforeseen accidents occuring.
- Do not grind metals near your stainless steel tank as sparks from grinding operation may leave marks on your tank.
- Stainless steel tanks can be relocated should the need arise. It is paramount that the tank is completely empty before attempting to move it. When there is no water flowing from the tank outlet, do not assume that the tank is completely empty. The tank has be to tilted to ensure all water has been removed. If any attempt is made to move the tank whilst there is still water inside, damage may occur. If in doubt, ask for advice.
- If you use your tank to support your down pipes, use only quality stainless steel fasteners and brackets.
- During the fitting operation of screwing your outlet cock into the outlet fitting of the tank, it is paramount to counter lock with a spanner or similar, so that the outlet fitting will not spin in the tank. If the outlet fitting is allowed to spin, the seal may break and the fitting may leak.
A 5,000-gallon Designer Tank has a service life well in excess of 40 years and will add value to any property. A stainless steel tank will depreciate $67.50 per year over this period, and is the only tank which can be fully recycled. When a stainless steel tank reaches the end of its effective service life, possibly in 50 to 60 years, it will be worth a considerable amount of money as scrap metal. Given the rate of inflation and the constantly escalating cost of raw materials, this tank may be worth more as scrap metal than its original cost. Consider this example, take a new 20000L zincalume, aquaplate, plastic, concrete and stainless steel tank and squash each of them into a block:
Due to the superior strength of Stainless Steel and our manufacturing process of welding, we are able to offer the largest range of slimline tanks in Australia. Our jumbo range covers tanks to a capacity of 7000L, on special request we can manufacture tanks up to 10000L.
Slimline Tanks should be the second choice to a round tank for cost reasons. Regardless, our slimlines enjoy tremendous popularity for their smart appearance and ability to fit in small niches and otherwise wasted spaces.
Our Super Slim series (680mm wide) and the Standard Series (880mm wide) have to sit on a concrete base or pavers to ensure stability of the tank at all times. The jumbo series (1200mm wide) can sit on a properly constructed crusher dust base. We invite you to visit our facility to inspect our unique Stainless Steel Slim Line Tanks.
