Site Preparation & Plumbing
Your base must be sound. We always recommend a concrete base, which will give premium long lasting results. However, it must be noted that Slimline Tanks 680 and 880 mm wide must sit on a concrete base or suitable pavers.
Round tanks and the Jumbo series (1.2 metre wide) tanks can sit on a crusher dust base instead of concrete. The base must be well compacted, ideally moistened and wacked and surrounded to ensure it stays in place with sleepers or pavers. It is imperative to ensure the crusher dust is fine without sharp pieces so it doesnt pierce the bottom of the tank. Weed matting or something similar can be placed between the crusher dust base and the tank as an added precaution. The overflow needs to be plumbed to prevent the water undermining the base.
Sand bases are not recommended as the material is light and can wash away with heavy rain. If the tank base subsides the tank can collapse.
If you want to put your tank on a stand there are a few things to consider. Firstly, consider the weight of the water in the tank. A 5000 litre tank holds 5 tons of water. Your stand must be capable of carrying this weight and comply with the appropriate Australian Standards.
